Tuscany or Moutayiakka for €1.3m? It’s a tough call

According to last week’s Sunday Mail, €1.3 million will get me a three-bedroom house in Ayia Anna, a four-bedroom villa under construction on the outskirts of Moutayiakka, or “a stunning ultra modern, five bedroom villa in Pano Argaka”.

Flicking through the House & Home section of last weekend’s Financial Times (a notoriously downmarket publication), I see the same budget can get me a fully restored 17th century mill in the Tuscan countryside, with four bedrooms plus an annex in 13 hectares of land.

And if I’m feeling the pinch of the credit crunch and only have half that budget to spare, €620,000 will get me a four-bedroom renovated stone farmhouse in the south-west of France, plus two-bedroom guest cottage, large stone barn, 11m infinity pool and fabulous views – not to mention its own spring water and 59 acres of meadows, fields and oak woodlands.

So, €1,320,200 will get me a developers’ villa in Moutayiakka; €1,250,000 will get me a restored 17th century mill in Tuscany. It's a tough call, especially looking at the pictures of the respective properties.

Recession, what recession? With bargains like these, our property market has a bright future ahead.

Kosta Pavlowitch,
Nicosia
