Woman stabbed boyfriend in drunken brawl

A 25-YEAR-OLD British tourist has been remanded in eight-day custody on suspicion of attempted murder after she stabbed her boyfriend four times during a drunken brawl, police said.

The incident took place during the early hours on Sunday in Oroklini in the Larnaca district. The couple, who have been together two years, had only arrived on the island for a holiday last week, police said.

Specifically the incident took place at around 1.45am at the apartment complex the couple had rented for their two-week stay in the coastal village.

Police said the 25-year-old social worker and her 28-year-old partner started fighting after returning from a night out at a local bar where the pair was said to have consumed a great deal of alcohol.

Neighbours notified police after hearing the argument break out. When the authorities arrived on the scene they found the 28-year-old sitting bleeding on the couch with the suspect sitting next to him.

Apparently the young woman had grabbed a kitchen knife during their argument and stabbed her partner three times in the shoulder and once in the cheek. One of the knife wounds is said to have barely missed the victim’s heart. Nevertheless police said the 28-year-old said he could not remember who had stabbed him. Witnesses have said they saw no one else other than the woman arguing with the man, police said.

The 25-year-old suspect is being investigated for attempted murder, grievous bodily harm and assault.

The attack is believed not to have been motivated by anything significant. The man said he was sitting on the bed when he suddenly felt himself being stabbed.

His girlfriend was then behind him telling him she loved him and crying. Even more confusing is the fact that neither one is said to be clear on whether they went to the bar together or separately.

In fact the couple are said to have told investigators this was not the first time such an incident had occurred and have claimed something similar happened in the UK in the past. Police have asked for clarification of this fact through Interpol.

The 28-year-old was rushed to hospital where he was kept in for treatment. His condition is said to be out of danger.
