How the top three will spend their day

DESPITE the momentous significance of today’s outcome for the top three presidential contenders, the trio have nothing more exciting planned than to vote and wait for the nail biting results.

The first one expected to cast his vote is President Tassos Papadopoulos.

The incumbent will vote at 9am at Deftera primary school in Nicosia, accompanied by his family.

He will proceed to tour various electoral centres before he breaks for a family lunch.

Papadopoulos will then go to the Presidential Palace to await the results.

AKEL candidate Demetris Christofias will cast his vote at 10am at the Makedonitissa A’ Primary School. From there, he will go to the Kaimakli and Pallouriotissa voting centres, before returning home to have lunch with his family and to take a rest.

“In the afternoon he will return to the campaign office to wait for the results,” a campaign spokesman said.

DISY candidate Ioannis Kasoulides and his family are due to vote at 10.30am at the Elenio primary school in Nicosia.

Kasoulides will then go to the campaign headquarters, before taking an extended lunch break with his family.

“It is a family tradition to have Sunday lunch together, and I don’t anticipate Mr Kasoulides will violate this tradition even if it is election day,” campaign spokesman Loukas Fourlas said.

Kasoulides will then return to his campaign headquarters to watch the exit polls and the incoming results.

Polling stations are scheduled to close at 5pm.

If all goes according to plan, the first results are expected at 6pm, while the final results will be out as early as 8.30pm.
