Russian boy, 8, dies after smashing into glass door at Napa hotel
AN EIGHT-YEAR-OLD boy from Russia yesterday died from severe injuries sustained when he ran into the glass rotating door of the hotel he was staying at in Ayia Napa, which smashed due to the force of the impact. The horrific accident happened a little after noon, in front of the boy’s distraught mum and grandmother. The little boy had been attempting to run out of the hotel but without realising there was a glass door, he ran straight into it, and was showered with broken glass. He was left critically injured. “He was seriously injured and taken by ambulance to a private hospital in Paralimni, where unfortunately he was pronounced dead on arrival,” said Famagusta Police Spokesman George Economou. The eight-year-old arrived in Cyprus last Saturday with his mother and grandmother for a short holiday. The authorities have ruled out the possibility of criminal negligence on the part of the hotel, as the glass doors in question had warning stickers on the top, middle and bottom.
