Teenage burglars arrested after Limassol car chase
LIMASSOL police are investigating a case against four teenagers, suspected of conspiring to commit burglary and possessing burglary tools. The group were chased by police vehicles in the centre of town after they were seen throwing a pair of pliers out of the car window.
The incident took place in the early hours of Monday, when a police patrol car saw a suspicious vehicle with no licence plates moving in the Enaerios area. The vehicle was driven by an 18-year-old boy, and three other boys, an 18-year-old and two 15-year-olds were also in the car.
The vehicle was chased, but its driver managed to escape and throw a pair of pliers out of the window. The tool was confiscated by police who believe the group intended to use it to commit burglaries. “It is a dangerous tool, you can inflict harm with it and break into a locked shop,” said Andreas Angelides, Senior Police Officer.
Half an hour after the Enaerios chase, a police patrol car saw the same vehicle being driven by a relative of one of the people who were in the car earlier on. The vehicle was stopped and an investigation ensued.
The four boys were taken in for questioning. The 18-year-old confessed to the charges brought against him and named the other three teenagers as his accomplices.
“The 18-year-old driver confessed to committing the crime and investigations are under way concerning all four people, in relation to possessing burglary tools and conspiracy to commit a crime,” Angelides confirmed.
All four appeared before Limassol District Court yesterday, where they were charged and released.
