Yet another car park?

Regarding your article, ‘Limassol unveils ambitious project to transform city centre’, it sounds wonderful that Limassol actually wants to improve the lovely old town and create a park, etc. Thank you to the EU for providing some of the funding – however, is it just going to be a "new car park" funded by a grant?

The village of Erimi, just outside of Limassol received an EU grant to improve the centre of the village. A lovely area has been created, with coloured paving stones and trees.  However, nobody can use the area for recreation purposes, as it is always full of parked cars. Really and truly, with all the money from the EU to create this new area, they should have included some dropped curbs. At least it would make it easier for motorists to park their cars.

My fear is that with all the improvements in mind for Limassol, it will only improve and add to the areas, which are used by motorists to park their cars.  Would it not be nice to be able to have pavements in Limassol designed for pedestrians?  With no dangers, such as cracked tiles, holes or the need to walk in the road to navigate around parked cars? Would it not be great for mothers to be able to push their prams on the pavement? Or for a disabled person in a wheelchair to have a safe and secure pavement and be part of normal life?

Maybe it is a dream which will come true one day – it would certainly do wonders for the tourists...
