Will no one hear my water solutions?

It amazes me that with such dire water shortages on the island few people seem to be that bothered. I have not washed my car since January yet notice most of the car washes are still in full swing, people are still washing the streets, which has always amazed me even when we had plenty of water, but the problem that I have is that no one in authority seems to listen to the general public.

I have e-mailed and directly contacted both the water authority and agricultural minister on suggestions for conserving water and cost effective ways to desalinate sea water. After all, we are an island surrounded by sea, and have sun, waves and wind to power these plants and do not need to be energy-hungry as currently being suggested.

The information is freely available on the internet on how to use nothing but the sun to ‘distil’ sea water or wave power to generate power (even in summer there is enough swell if out far enough) and what about sub-aqua fresh water springs that could be ‘tapped’ and pumped ashore.

There is also ‘cloud seeding’ that could be done in the winter months and instead of the cloud passing over us and raining down on the ocean, it could be controlled to fall over land by cloud seeding. Cloud seeding can be done from the ground with the use of small rockets containing silver iodide or dry ice pellets into cumulus clouds or dropped from an aircraft

As an amateur inventor, I am sure I could come up with various desalination solutions using nothing more than the waste products we throw away on a daily basis

I have also come up with ideas for a large scale desalination system that uses around a third of the energy currently required for systems of the same scale that would work all year round with little or no maintenance. All I have to do is actually speak to someone that will listen!!

I have done some simple tests and filled a large water bottle (the type you get from those drinking dispensers) with sea water, attached a tube to the top going into another vessel and it can distil comparatively large amounts just by leaving out in the sun. Couldn’t this be done on a larger scale; the end result is drinking water and a salt product that can be commercially sold, thus actually making money.

Instead there seems to be a trend to spend large amounts of our money into short term ventures like shipping water from Greece, not to mention the millions of euros it will cost to create the infrastructure to offload at the ports. If this is a temporary measure, isn’t that money down the drain?
