Bruno recovering well after horrific ordeal

AN IRISH wolfhound that suffered horrific injuries after being dragged by his neck from the back of a pick-up truck is on the road to recovery.

The plight of the dog, which was highlighted by the Cyprus Mail, caused a wave of anger across the island.

The ordeal, which left four-year-old Bruno fighting for his life, outraged animal welfare campaigners, when it was revealed that a council worker was seen attaching the yelping animal to his bumper, before speeding off with it in tow.

The vet who examined the Bruno, said he suffered severe abrasions and burns to all four legs, face, ears and to its abdomen and was in a severe state of shock.

Stella Stylianou from the Argos Charity, who has been looking after Bruno since the ordeal, told the Cyprus Mail that he was making a speedy recovery.

“Bruno suffered major physical trauma, but he is a different dog now, for the first two days he could not even move, now he is happy, curios and much healthier. He just has one open wound which is still healing.”

Several people have offered to adopt Bruno, but Argos is reluctant to release him until the original owner is found.

“Bruno was chipped, so we are feverishly searching for the owners, as they have moved house, but I think we will track them down,” said Stylianou.

Despite the fact he was abandoned, the dog was described as a warm, sweet and loving animal. And underneath his calm demeanour, he has the spirit of a survivor, Stylianou added.
