Tenders information closer to hand

PUBLIC TENDERS and contracts can now be carried out over the internet with the Cyprus Audit Office’s new website, .

The e-procurement system will allow the execution of tenders for the public and broader public sector through the internet.

The system’s users will be registered for free; it will announce tenders and publish documents. Users will be able to submit offers, as well as open and evaluate tenders.

According to the state’s Auditor-general, Lazaros Lazarou, e-procurement is expected to significantly reduce the time it takes to carry out tenders and improve the Public and Economic Sectors’ performance.

“It will create conditions of healthy competition, help utilise human resources more effectively and drastically reduce the transaction costs of the procedures for public contracts,” said Lazarou.

He added: “The System will also make it feasible to maintain more credible and qualitative information and statistics. Assigned Authorities and Economic Bodies will have the ability to collect more prompt and valid information, which will reinforce transparency, equal treatment and the efficiency of Public Contracts”.

The Office began working on the new system in October 2007, using the European prototype ( The aim is to improve communication and transactions between the public and the state.

A training programme for the System’s handlers has already begun, while informative seminars have been arranged in all of the island’s main towns for any company that is interested to attend. The seminars, from 9 am to 1pm, will take place on May 21 in Paphos at the Paphos Polychoros, on May 26 in Larnaca at the Palm Beach Hotel, on June 2 in Limassol at the Grand Resort and on June 4 in Nicosia at the PASYDY Amphitheatre.
