EVERYONE is now calling for an investigation to establish the reasons for the difficulties being faced by Cyprus banks. The idea for an investigation was first mentioned by the former Rector of the Cyprus University Stavros Zenios and was embraced by President Christofias in a speech he made on Saturday at the conference of the bank employees union ETYK.Christofias said he was in talks with the new Governor of the Central Bank regarding the launching of an in-depth investigation into the banking crisis. The AKEL chief also agreed that there should be an investigation, while on Monday the House Finance Committee discussed this possibility. ENTREPRENEURS – especially women and the young – are currently suffering from a bureaucratic system which prevents them from accessing funding mechanisms or finding prospective employers, the House Commerce Committee yesterday heard.“As a university rector told us, a university which produces unemployed scientists cannot be proud,” said DISY MP Andreas Michaelides.Michaelides said that the committee acknowledged the need to improve access to support schemes for young and women entrepreneurs and to improve the communication between academic institutions on the one hand and industries and businesses on the other hand.
